hi, please can anyone tell me what the last word of this ladies occupation is. the first 2 bits are parish relief ?????? her name is sarah purkis (nee bigmore) on the 1851 census, bartlow essex

hello I dont know about what you think, but if you look at the addresses it seems like she is, perhaps living on an attached cottage to the farm. Sharmala.

really dont know. what would a parish relief have done? or is this 1 i am only going to be able to work out with the last word? *******UPDATE**** in answer to my own question, parish relief is linked to the poor law etc.

hi The cottage (if it is) would have been paid for by the parish and perhaps she had fallen on hard times if her husband had died and needed somwhere to live a bit like Alms housing. Sharmala.
