Can anyone help? My maternal G.mother was married twice before my G.father. Both went MIA during WW2, have the notification sent to her for 1st hubby, but can't find either death recorded. Anyone got any tips? Dawn.

Yeah, found 1st one there. but surely there should be a record somewhere? Something a bit more tangible. Dawn

Dawn some deaths for men who died in the wars are on the overseas death index on findmypast, the trouble is when you get a death certificate it usually just says died in action. Georgina.

Depends what you mean by tangible. The CWGC is the national place of commemoration for all Commonwealth war dead, by marking graves, displaying the names of the missing on memorials and maintaining records. Having said that there will also normally be a death certificate which can be obtained through the normal British registration systems, although there may be the very occasional exception. Denis

Will have to see if someone can search findmy past for me, as I haven't subscribed to it. My main concern is finding death certs for both men. Have checked the year the were reported missing and few years after, with no results. Thanks for all your help. Dawn
