Hi Anne One of the others may be able to nudge it for you as I cant remember the exact title of the thread but basically what you do is get her original birth cert so you have her exact birth date. Then go to the first year she was able to vote as in that year they supply there birthdates. Trawl the electoral roll until you find an Eileen with that birthdate. Then come back here for some more help cross referencing the BDMs. That means you cross match the Eilleens you find and eliminate the ones that were born with that name, hopefully you will be left with a small number of other possibles, you can then check a couple of years forward and see who may have been married to get that name and hopefully by elimination you will land on your girl. Hi Anne In order to do what Tania suggested you need to know the area that Eileen lived in when she was old enough to go on the electoral register. She would be on the register at 20 so as to be eligible to vote at 21. Have you got Margory's original birth certificate? if not I suggest you get it so you have her correct date of birth. It should be amended and the wording 'adopted' in the far right hand column. As you believe you have her adoptive first name you can search the index of the Adopted Children Register... this can ONLY be done in person at the Family Records Centre in London. Start searching from 19 weeks after Margory/Eileen's birth. Birth mothers were given 6 weeks to sign and the adoptive parents had to have the child for 13 consecutive weeks before an adoption could be heard in the court. After an adoption order has been granted in the court, the child is then placed on the Adopted Children Register in her ADOPTIVE name. Not all children were adopted straight away... so the 19 week is just a starting guide. It can take between 2 to 4 weeks for a name to appear on the ACR after the Adoption Order has been granted. If you feel you have a match then you can order Eileen's FULL Adoption Certificate. This will give you the name and address of her adoptive parents at the time of her adoption and court name. The only way you can match if Margory and Eileen are the same person is the date of birth. 1948 Adoption Certificates only give country of birth and not actual place of birth. Adoption Certificates don't give any information about the birth mother. You can then search the marriage index for her married name (hopefully she only married the once) Hope this has helped... it can be done as I found my brother this way and all I had was his adoptive Christian name. Good luck with your search. Cheers Gerry

Gerladine I believe I do know the area she lived in at 20. Well I know what town she went to live in when she was adopted and can start from there. Do you know where I can find the electrol role for 1968 for Welling in Kent. Many thanks.

The name of this lady should NOT be on here.....it contravenes the site's T & C's. You can ask for advice without giving the name. Reg
