For the past week or so, I've found it near impossible to access the IGI. The site keeps crashing and only runs very slowly at best. Is anyone else having similar problems? Any idea what is up with it? Thanks, Tracey

Yes I have had problems with it too. It seems to be OK at very quiet times though. Just too many of us using it I guess! dizzy

Yes, it keeps coming up with errors. I think they should put a note up on the home page if there are problems so that people are aware. It's strange - you can get to the home page OK but if you try to search that's when it goes wrong. With regard to ancestors not being on there, I think someone told me the Catholic churches refused en masse to submit their records.

Thanks for nudging the records board thread. Very interesting - so there IS a problem. Alexandra's comment that the site has been playing up since the WDYTYA weekend could have hit the nail on the head. It could well be that the site is unable to cope with the increased traffic volume. Well we saw the effect that TV series had on GRO certificate delivery times, didn't we! Tracey

Hi Countrygirl. With the IGI, the non-existent entries are better than the fictitious ones - at least you are not being led up a gumtree! The IGI extracts, however, are mostly reliable, though errors can creep in during the transcription process. Tracey
