I'm trying to find birth details for 2 boys whose father was in the Army at the time of their births so they are not registered on the civil lists. The were John Augustus Plunkett born 1853 (ish) in Winchester and James Plunkett born 1856 London. The only Army details I have is that in 1869 their father was a Sgt in the 88th regiment of foot. Many thanks Sue

If they were born in England their registrations should be on the ordinary GRO index - the Army lists contain births/baptisms overseas.

Bear in mind, registration wasnt compulsory until 1875- they may not have been registered

Searched Armed Forces Births 1761 - 1994 between 1850 and 1860 but did not find John Augustus Plunkett.

Thanks all for you comments and looking...am beginning to think they can't have been registered. John A Plunkett lists his birth place as 5 different locations according to which census you look at and this family grouping vanishes completely after the 1861... Thanks again Sue
