i have been looking for a minnie blazier and have found her in 1901 with her husband and children also living in the same house is her mother and brothers and sisters but no father. so i deciced to look for her father. heres the catch...her mother mary e wilson and minnies siblings all have the same middle initial which is e.when looking back to try and find her father i have come across a family with the same names as i am looking for.all there middle names are easingwood could this be who i am looking for and could this be a double barrelled surname. there seems to be more children earlier than later thats what is confusing me.(maybe they past on). somethings telling me its not right. any ideas anyone.

If a middle name looks like a surname it is usually significant in some way. It could be a surname from further back in the family, a grandparent's for example. However quite often a middle name is given by a mother to her illegitimate child and indicates what the father's surname was! Only you can work out if it is your family though! Anne

'more children earlier than later' - well they might have died, or staying with relatives, or by the time of the next census some may have been old enough to leave home - as young as 13 or 14 if they were going as apprentices or into service. The middle name might have been to keep a family name going (perhaps mum or grandma's maiden name) or sometimes illegitimate children took their father's name as a middle name but doubt that would apply to whole family.

Are they the family at 27 Spencer St, Hull. Minnie is 28 and Mary E Wilson is a widow. Just to confirm it is the right family.

I seewhat you mean about Mary and William Easingwood, She is is the only Mary that comes up with Laxton as birth place that fits. Have you got Minnie Blazier's marriage cert. if so what does it say on there for father?

The only 2 Easingwood children from 1891 not present in 1901 would have been 17 and 20 by then so not a problem that they are not still at home. A few possibilities - Mary was never married to William Easingwood but claimed to be in 1891, then reverted to WIlson with Easington as middle name for the children later; or they always were Easingwood Wilson but the 1891 enumerator misunderstood and left the WIlson bit off. What were they called in 1881 I wonder? Answers own question - the family were using Easingwood Wilson then so guess the 1891 census enumerator just got it wrong.
