Ive managed to create my tree on here and now have 100 family members I don't know if its just me but i cant seem to work out exactly how to use the data from the census printouts . I have bought countless credits and have printed out a bag full of forms, all with the name I'm looking for but how do i know its the right person? I have my grandads full name (unfortunately its Jones) , date married, date died. what do i need to do if i wanted to work out his parents names, and any siblins etc. Please help! Thank youuu!

You need to obtain his birth certificate in order to find out his parents' names. I shall bring forward to the top some threads that give advice.

You need to start with what you know is 100% accurate...........your own birth cert. From that, find the marriage of your parents, and their births. Next, both sets of grandparents.........their marriages, and their births. When you get to the stage where people will be on the 1901 census, you can look for them on there................ Tell us exactly where you have got to with known facts.................let us see if we can help. Don't buy credits through GR.........there are better ways of gaining info.....many of them free. Hi Your grandads birth certificate will tell you his mothers maiden name and fathers name and occupation....from here you buy your grandad and grandmothers marriage certificate, this will tell you their address at time of marriage, both parties fathers names and occupations.. You just keep working your way back like this, a bit like a jigsaw, then alongide the certificates you use the census's to crossmatch the information that the certificates have given you to find the correct family.
