I have been in correspondence with a lady in an Austrian records office, she has given me bank details and will send an Austrian marriage cert once the money is credited to the bank. I have 2 problems:- 1) The amount is 8.6 euros. Does anyone know how I can pay in Euros from a UK bank account? 2) Does anyone know how I can pay into an Austrian bank. The details are a different format to UK banks so I can't do it online I don't think. I have a Visa debit card, and a Paypal account although I have no idea how to use it! Can anyone give me any advice? Thanks Duncan |

It is easy enough to do a bank to bank transfer to a foreign bank. However, for such small amounts, the cost of the transfer is usually prohibitively expensive. To do the transfer, you need the name of the bank, its address, the account number and either the SWIFT code or the IBAN code. I suggest, however, you use Google to explore other options. |

Thanks Charles, yes I'll have a play on Google. I will check with the bank on Monday, they charge the Earth for everything else but I'd be daft not to find out, I didn't even realise it was possible to pay through UK banks. Duncan |

Duncan I regularly make payments overseas. Using your bank is expensive as they have a standard charge irrespective of the amount you are transferring. My bank wanted to charge me £15 for the priviledge of sending the equivalent of £20! I do all my transfers through paypal (dollars and euro mainly) and I only have a standard sterling account. The recipient needs to tell you their paypal e-mail address in order for it to work. Once you know this log onto you paypal account and choose the send money tab. Enter the mail address the recipient has given you, the amount and the currency, select the other option and hey presto. Its as simple as that! Karen |

Thanks Karen, I have just emailled the lady in question asking if she has a paypal email address, that will be ideal. But I have a funny feeling her reply will be 'Nein'. Duncan |

8.6 Euros - I would enclose it in a sheet of paper and post it. The risk of losing it is probably less than you would pay the bank for doing a transfer. Jay |

I agree with the last posting, send the money registered by post. |

Thanks Janet, I think I'll do that for simplicity. As predicted they have no paypal email address, I have asked a few financial type places today and the best offer was charging me £25.00! It wouldn't be much dearer to hop on a plane and take it myself!!! Duncan |
