Thanks for that. The brides name was Georgiana but I didn't until now know her surname, which must be Chadwick. Thanks once again. I will write to Bradford Register Office and get the certificate. Regards Rowena |

I don't know about Bradford but some offices won't supply marriage certificates unless you know the actual church or other location. The local offices don't need the full GRO reference as their records aren't logged by these numbers. Gwyn |

Hi Rowena, I would normally agree with ordering birth and death certificates from local register offices, but I would not recommend ordering a marriage certificate from one, especially not a large city one such as Bradford, unless you know the church where the marriage took place. The reason for this is that at the register office the marriages are listed on a per church basis, so the registrar probably won't have the time to search for it unless you can narrow it down quite considerably. You have the GRO index ref (which doesn't apply to the local register office), so I would recommend you order the certificate from the GRO. :-) Chris P.S. Ooops, sorry Gwyn, snap! |

I have applied for Greenwood's brother marriage certificate (at Bradford) without a church or parish and they sent me the correct certificate. I had rung up to check to see what to do before I sent the letter. Rowena |

That's good then. Maybe they have their records computerised - some register offices certainly do, and they can find entries straight away, but it's still the exception I think. :-) Chris |

Halifax do it, as well but there system is easier as you must download a form and fill it in, then send it on to them. |
