What proof is enough?

I have today received a death certificate for what I am hoping will prove to be my gt.gt.grandmother. What do you think? |

The name on the cert. is Mary Rayner and the informant was her daughter, Sarah Ann Breeze. I’ve never been able to prove my gt.grandfather’s parents but a year or more ago I sent for his marriage cert. and I now find that the same Sarah Breeze plus her husband Robert, were witnesses to the marriage. This could very well mean that Sarah (nee Rayner) was a witness to her brother Thomas’ marriage. Would this be enough proof for me to accept this Mary Rayner (husband Thomas) is mother to the younger Thomas as well as Sarah? This, so far, is the strongest lead I have. Thomas jnr’s birth or baptism registration (before 1837) has so far eluded me. Jo |

What you already have seem's pretty conclusive, have you found the family together on any census's? Georgina. |

Yes, I have, but only on the 1841 and then his age is 7. And with a name like Thomas I thought it could be anyone. Later census with his own family puts him betwen 2 & 3 yrs. younger. I know there is always a few years allowance to be made but without any hard facts I didn't know whether to accept him or not. Jo |
