Gavin Report 16 May 2007 13:37

Hi Lots of my ancestors lived in the villages between Barnsley & Rotherham and nearly all the men worked as miners. Earl Fitzwillam owned most of the land and some of the coal mines others he leased out. I would like to find out if my ancestors worked in the Earl Fitzwilliam mines. I know the estate records are in the Sheffield archives - Has anyone looked at them, are they indexed. Is it possible to find the names of employees? Many Thanks for any help Gavin
