I have only recently started searching altho have had my adoption papers for many years. Today I received my original birth cert but have no idea where to find electoral rolls etc or any other sources for information. I have also been told of the money involved if using the recommended agency to trace, I don't have any funds to do that but would like to know more of any biologcal family I may have. |

Hi Marion, Were your parents married when you were born? If so, you might be able to find a marriage cert for them. If not and there's just your mother's name listed it get a bit more tricky. Rose |

Hi If you type adopted or adoptions in the search box there are alot of useful threads that may help you. When i searched for an adopted friends parents, i searched the bmd indexes page by page on ancestry for marriages for the parents listed on the original birth cert. Then i looked for any other children from the marriage. & i was lucky enough to find a child on this site. I also started a family tree from what i knew, & found the parents births certificates etc & worked back in the hope i would find a connection through that as well. Electoral rolls are held at the local county archive for the area they would be living in. Hope this helps Sandra |

although I have received original birth cert from registry I cannot read all addresses. Mother only 16 when she had me and no father listed. Any help appreciated Thanks for helpful advice from Portland Rose and Janice. Have spent many long hours trawling thro relevant records on Ancestry and have now come up with a possible family but not sure how to verify if it is the right connection. Mothers maiden name and area are correct and have found details of marriage and children on their site. Again 'where to now' |

Have you been able to find your mother's birth on Ancestry? http://www.ancestry.*co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx Remove the * and use the Complete Index. Rose |

You could also look through the marriages on Ancestry after your birth to see if your mother got married. Won't be easy if it's a common name though. Janice |
