You can narrow things down a bit with her dads name and occupation.

Did Mary die after 1969? If so, her death certificate will hopefully give a date of birth and birthplace....if the informant knew that information. That is your best bet, I would think. With no JONES witnesses at her marriage, we have no way of knowing whether Griffiths was still alive then. As a farmer, he is likely to have left a Will. Gwyn

Hi Tinky, I've just had a look in 1891 census and there's 62 Griffin Jones' that could be the father on cert. This was guessing his birth year being around 1880 and county Caenarvonshire. Add birthplace Canarvon and the number drops to 10. Hmmmm.......maybe you shouldorder the birth cert you mentioned.....lol Deb:)

Hi Tinky, I agree her death certificate will be the way forward for you. If you want to look to see if someone left a will after 1858 then you can search the national probate calendar, this is available to search at some of the larger record offices. Here is a list of some that do hold it. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Probate.html

Don't rely on it saying ..Deceased.. on a marriage certificate. When my grandparents married in 1900, the bride's father and his occupation is shown....No mention that he had been dead for nearly 25 years. In these cases look for his signature as a witness...but remember it could be a brother of bride or groom, - or other relative with the same name. Gwyn
