Hi I have traced my GG Grandmother back to the 1861 census. On the census information it states she is 3 years old, with her name etc. But then states her occupation/ residency as being lodger/ nurse - what does this mean? Is she being looked after by this family? Many thanks for your help or any suggestions. Tracy

Perhaps it's lodger/nurse child - in which case the family would be caring for her, for a charge. Jay

Im sure Jan is right, that she is a nurse child - a foster child. The fact it says Lodger is probably to indicate a payment is being made to stay there.
