How can I find out where my G Gdad's shops were?

My great grandfather owned several Herbalist shops in *I believe* the Oldham / Failsworth area, but I haven't got a clue where they were. Could anybody advise me how I would be able to trace were the shops were and who was the last owner after my G Gfather sold them on? thanks Linda

Can you lay your hands on any trade directories for the area? I've never used them (I'm descended from common or garden ag labs and navvies!), I'm sure someone will know where you can. Perhaps through the library?

Try googling for Kelly's Directories as these were the equivalent of the Yellow Pages for businesses etc. That would tell you the town/street of the shop which would be a place to start. Usually the entries were under the owner's name.

Linda try looking at www*historicaldirectories*org Local and trade directories from 1750 to 1919. BTW it's a free site. T.O.R. ;o))

This sounds vaguely familiar - have you searched before for this? If I were you Id try a google search using his name and herbalist and the areas and see if anything comes up.
