Hi Heather.Looking at marraiges for John Goulden.I have nothing to go on except his name on his daughters marraige cert.Everything is guesswork even looking for her.I have found bits but would sooner not give it out as I dont want anyone to be led the wrong way. Was gonna put it on the board but I have Mary Ellen Goulden marrying Thomas Mitchell,Manchester in 1914.Father John a hawker. I have a birth cert for William Goulden born 1911 to Mary Ellen Goulden in Chorlton. That is fact any other info which is little is what I have looked at and dont want to throw people off on a wrong trail. If you could help that would be marvellous. Cheers.Wanda.x |

Just to add - the transcripts you are looking at are the freebmd ones and they are being transcribed by volunteers so arent complete yet. Who is it you are trying to find married to whom? There may be other ways of checking it out - eg, looking at the next census for your person and seeing what the wife/husband's first name is? |

The page number refers to a page in the volume of copies of marriage entries which are sent in by vicars - in early days of registration these pages had space to record 3 or 4 marriages, later two marriages were copied per page - hence all the couples whose marriage details were copied onto the page will have the same reference. If you have an odd number of male/female entries it could be because: a) one of the people have not yet been transcribed from the index b) one has been mistranscribed with the wrong page number c) one of the people involved has been transcribed twice - perhaps because they had two surnames, or because one of the transcriptions was spelt wrong |

Have been on Ancestry looking at marraiges and have clicked on the volume number at the bottom to bring up other people on that page.Heres where I get lost... 1. Why is there 4 lots of names on the page with the same no? I understand that its 2 couples but why have same page and ref no.Why are they not unique to each couple? 2. Why when I tried another page would there be 5 names on there.2 males and 3 females. Why not 6 or are we talking bigamy here? 3.Has anyone found an easy way of finding which person is with which.Any help appreciated. Thanks Wanda.x |
