Infantry Records stamp on birth certificate

Could anyone please shed any light as to why my grandfathers birth certificate would have been stamped by The New Army Infantry Records Office in Perth, Scotland? It was stamped on the 10th March 1915, my grandfather would have been 7 years old at the time. There is no fathers name on the birth certificate. I thought this could be a possible way of tracing who his father was. I am going on the assumption that the army requested the certificate in relation to maybe next of kin or maintenance payments. I have made various enquiries but no one can offer an explanation or any advice as to where i might find the information. If anyone out there can help it would be appreciated. Jim Dewar |
