My GGrandfather Joseph Kisby was born in March Cambridgeshire about1860 the family moved to the Rochdale area later. He had 2 older siblings John about 1854 and Mary J about1859 and other younger ones. The 1871 census shows him with his parents John and Mary Jane Kisby. 1861 census shows John and Mary Ann Kisby and children John and Mary Ann. I want to send for their marriage cert so I checked BMD and Cambs BMD There are 4 John Kisby marriages around the time 1849 spouse clark 1853 spouse Judd 1854 spouse Munton 1859 spouse Turnell There is a trace of a Mary Jane Turnell on the 1851 census but no relevant Mary Janes for the other 3 names therefore the 1859 marriage seems right, but the 1861 census shows wife and daughter as Mary Ann Just to complicate matters there are 2 deaths for Mary Ann Kisby, one 1859 July to Sept, The other 1860 April to June in the right area. Did John give a wrong wifes name in 1861 having married in 1859, and had 2 children before marriage, or was he married previously, possibly remarrying illegally. Or is the only way to sort this is to obtain John and Mary [the children] birth certs. Sorry its so long Many thanks in advance for any help

I think your going to have to get the childrens birth certificates to sort this one out, unless of course Mary Jane and Mary Ann are one of the same person and information given in the first place was wrong. Nicky.
