Hi my grandad was born 1903 cant find any more siblings till 1913 so I will have to buy birth certs that I know will work out expensive but before I do wondered if anyone knows if or when these missing years where mothers maiden name is not on these lists will be available hope this is not a silly question but if it saves me money its a result!! Hi Julie The years are not 'missing' as such, the mother's maiden name was never recorded on the indexes before 1911. I don't suppose anyone can say for certain that they will never become available but I doubt it very much, it would be an absolutely mammoth task, cross referencing every entry in the index from 1837-1911 to the original certificate. Julie how desperate are you? Your best bet would be the 1911 census when it's released. If the family stayed at the same address in those years then you could have an address search done from the 1911 census for £45. Georgina.

Hi Julie, When the GRO DoVE project is complete, there should be the facility to see all mother's maiden names from 1837, although I can't make up my mind whether this will be available to the general public, or whether it will be available to GRO staff only. Anyway, you can read all about it here: :-) http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/aboutus/lookingahead/Digitisation_of_Vital_Events.asp Chris
