Oh, I see you changed your identity to something else and then posted. But Amanda, only thing is my postings were coming up as I submitted them with that name on and it had been changed in my account. Sound thinking though but in this case someone had to enter my account to do it.

Using the Family tree's on Ancestry i was able to work out which of the two possible John Wintrip's I had was mine the other one turned up in a one world tree having emigrated to America. Certainly worth having a look

No Amanda, I contacted GR who says its only possible for me to change my name, no one else. Well, no one else has access to my puter and it wasnt me ................Ive been told that GRs main server is in the states and it does make me wonder whether all the weird and wonderful things people complain about on here, like bits changed on their trees etc. is down to some disgruntled techi doing a bit of mischief. Its worrying though. I thank gawd my tree is not left on here.

Dont know if its the same one. If you go on ancestry click on the tab for family trees above the search box and then enter your ancestor - it brings up everyone who has submitted trees with that name,.

Heather, Sound advice about going back and rechecking. As you say, when it's all new and exciting and coming in faster than you can process it, it is easy to make mistakes. I think you look at it through different eyes later on, when the giddiness has worn off. In the early days, I 'found' a branch of the family descending from a sibling of my great, great grandfather who I later discovered had died at the age of 12 in a mining accident! Carelessness on my part! Glad to see you're no longer a 'stinker'. Did you get to the bottom of that particular mystery? Amanda x

thanks Heather. Now I know a little bit more than I did in the early days, it is certainly worth going back and checking everything. I used to take everything as gospel truth, now I am more careful. thanks for the tip vicky

I was looking through some stuff Id done early on in my research on my family tree maker and horror of horrors I realised Id missed out a generation because the previous gen had the same names! So I had the hubby and wife actively producing kids in their 70s! (actually their grandchildren!). Ive now sorted the mistake but I decided to do a quick web search on them. Blow me if the line didnt come up with a very nice documented tree on ancestry one world trees. It actually gave me some siblings Id not noted and the marriages of some of them - back to late 16th century. Ive contacted the submitter as we seem to branch off from our shared GGF. Just shows you that its worth having a look at the trees on ancestry and also that you should check your early research as thats when so much is coming in and you are so excited that you can mess up the info.
