Please could anyone help me solve a problem. I have a Joseph Kilgour who married Lydia Atherton, (born abt 1811) in 1830 with definitely one child Ann, born Liverpool abt1935. I have found Lydia in 1961 living with Ann and her family as a widow and I found a possible family in 1841. Lydia died in 1867. Joseph Kilgour 30 LOUISA Kilgour 30 Ann Kilgour 7 James Kilgour 2 months There is also a public family tree on Ancestry detailing James Kilgour born April 1841 with parents Joseph and LYDIA Kilgour, but no Ann. What does anyone think the chances are of this being the same family and could anyone give any clues how to find them in 1851, although I think I have exhausted the search. I would be grateful for any help or suggestions anyone could give. Thanks Marilyn

Marilyn you thread seems to have mix of 1800,s and 1900,s dates makes it difficult to put it all together.

Sorry, tried to type it so quick fingers got tangled!! Ann was born about 1835 in Manchester and Lydia in 1861 census living with daughter and family. Thanks a lot for any help. Marilyn

Thanks Reg Maybe that is why I cannot find them in 1851, there is another family too I am stuck with in that year, in the 1841 census Lydia is named as Louisa, so wondered if there was any way of finding out if it was definitely them. Everything else looks the same. Thanks for replying Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, I think it's likely that the 1841 census does refer to the same family and that Lydia has been mistranscribed as Louisa: an easy mistake to make considering the similarity. It could be that the owner of the Ancestry tree is a descendant of James, born 1841, and doesn't know about Ann, or has concenterated just on their direct line, leaving out any of James' siblings. I wonder who the groom might have been named after? lol If this is your relation, you might be intersted to know that there were quite a few Kilgours and all in the Manchester area.

Hi Amanda Yes that is who she married, I had found that but thanks anyway. I have quite a few Isaac Newtons in my family wonder if any of them discovered gravity!!! LOL
