If you buy the marriage cert, you will learn the name and occupation of his father, which should help with tracking the family. You may find he'd been married before........... Reg |

Thanks for the replies. Anything is possible, i suppose his name could have changed from Ray to Wray in later years.I have almost all info on his children and grandchildren, my mum being one of them.He died in 1900 ,which would tie in with the fact that his wife Annie and children were inmates at Ashton workhouse on 1901 census. Annie died 1911 and their youngest son Joseph(my grandad) went to live with an Uncle. His wife was Annie Shevlin b 1866 from Monaghan ,Ireland.Yes there is an age gap.He may have looked good for his age!!! I will check out the Mothers name of Mary and look through census again ,but use the spelling of Ray. Thankyou for your help, its much appreciated. |

Sorry to question you, but are your dates correct, as if he was born in 1836 and started his family in 1887 that makes him 51!! Not impossible but unusual Ann |

I have been searching for Charles Wray born Stalybridge, Cheshire in abt 1836.His death was 1900 in Ashton-U-Lyne,Lancashire . I have only managed to find him on the 1861 census and marriage index. He married Annie Shevlin in Ashton 1887 and they had 7 children from 1887-1900,these were William, Charles, Arthur,John,Patrick,Alice and Joseph Wray. Where do i look next to find this man and his parents and siblings? I am finding it difficult to track down there are so many other Wrays in the area. Hope someone can help,Thanks Donna |
