You should be able to check the probate calendar for yourself at your nearest county archive as well. Anne

Hi, I went to a family history workshop last night at our local library and the lady there was talking about a Calendar of Wills for wills proved after 1/1/1858 which you can search by year and surname. Apparently if you find a will in this volume you can apply for the full version which costs £5 regardless of length (sounds like a good deal). So try your local library and best of luck. Maria P.S. Forgot to say if you google the area and wills e.g. 'Hampshire wills' there are some searchable sites also.

Does anyone know if there is an index of wills for the 1880s online. My GGG Grandfather and his children were left part of a £50,000 estate in 1882 by a women with no known blood connection. I would like to locate the will to see if I can find any clues. I know I can contact York Probate Registry but would like to see if I can find anything out before then. T.O.R. ;o))
