I have had the same e-mail address for ten years, it is published in various directories world wide and on the internet, I have also passed it on to many people on various sites, I have had no problems. Jennifer

I can't see a problem with giving out your email addy. It doesn't give any personal details or your location at all. And as everyone else has said, you can just add him to your list of unapproved emailers and his emails will be blocked. Mandy

I have given out my e-mail address numerous times ti GR members without any problems. It is really no different to revealing your e-mail address to a commercial organisation who then sell your details on for marketing purposes. as previously said you can always class as junk any mails from unwanted sources or set up a seperate e-mail free e-mail account at a number of sources for example MSN Hotmail and use that for GR purposes.

if your're not sure.... creat a 2 nd address on a free email account. You could use that one just for people you don't know. I have given out my adress numerous times, and haved'nt encountered any problems, and as it has already been said, you can block them if you see any dodgy stuff

As long as you don't give him your home address or phone number, what harm can he do with your e-mail address? As already stated, you can block any messages from him if you don't wish to continue the contact. Reg

but what can he do with it? I have made contact thro ancestry and replied via them .have given my email later so they could send info, You can always block him later if anything comes up you don't like, Shirley PS anything he does with your email address will end up in YOUR email box so you will know if its been misused

I would chance it . You will get his addy when he sends the info. If it turns out a bummer you can always block his email later. Shirley

You could keep replying to him through the Ancestry service until you feel confident about giving him your e-mail address. He can quite easily copy and paste his information for you. If he wants to send you a GEDCOM file he will need your e-mail address so he can send it as an attachment.
