With a fresh mind and a good nights sleep i decied to do some more digging and the good news is I now think that this is the right family in 1841. I have found an entry for Emma Matilda Robinson b Q2 1840 Holborn and a Death for Emma in Q4 1843 Also Holborn. Cant find a Birth Entry for George but he may well have just missed the introduction of civil registration as he was probably born late 1836/early 1837 but have found a death entry for a George Robinson Q4 1846 Holborn. So all this fits with therm not being with the rest of the family on later records. Also checked 1851 Census and cant find another family still in Middlesex that could be the same family as that on the 1841 census, so all this leads me to think that I have at last found the right family. A Big thanks to all those who have helped me.

Hi Jim Yes that is Thomas and Maria last child (forgot he was born post registration) so best guess is the others were born in same district but how to find them without visiting London?

Trace your family forward and you may find a place of birth. For example,is this your family? 1861 William Hy W Robinson Thomas W,Maria abt 1843 London, England Son Ipswich St Mary At The Tower Suffolk birth? William Henry Walter Robinson 1842 Jul-Aug-Sep Holborn London, Middlesex marriage? William Henry Walter Robinson 1865 Oct-Nov-Dec Lambeth Greater London, London, Surrey

Ho Hum back to the drawing board again. How can I trace the childrens births pre 1837 since that seems the most likely way of pinpointing where the family were, I dont have any idea of where any of them were born apafrt form middlesex

Still not sure that this is my family as Maria Jnr is listed as born in county but she was born in Suffolk.

Its always difficult to tell relationships from the 1841 census. Sarah aged 24 could be a sister of Thomas. The other two children could have died between 1841 & 1851. I have just checked the original, Sarah Robinson is a servant. All the other dates seem to agree. Ken

Dont think they mine. I Have no George or Emma on any of the later Census and the Sarah is way too old to be their daughter

I have Thomas Robinson and his family living in Ipswich in 1851 he is a Police Constable but cant find any of them on 1841 census. Have looked for Thomas and his wife Maria and also for the 3 oldest children all to no avail. Thomas married Maria Longwood in Ipswich in 1829 and the first child was born in Ipswich but all the other children were born in Middlesex which makes me think that they were probably in Middlesex area between 1853 and 1843 when their last child was born. Have also checked IgI for all the children but that came up blank. Any suggestions please.
