I have a Thomas Holland, who was born 1810 in Colchester, Essex. I have just done a search on Familysearch.org for his marriage to Catherine and have found a thos Holland born in 1810 in a place called Boxted, Essex. Have looked on the google map and they look pretty close to each other, but would you be happy that they are one and the same person??? Many thanks Clare x |

Where have you got Colchester as birth place from? If it was a census when he was living away from Boxted/Colchester area he might well have named Colchester as the nearest town to his home village. If he was still living in the area I would have thought he would have named Boxted which is/was quite separate from Colchester, though I suppose he might have moved to Colchester as a child and not realised he was born up the road in Boxted. I think I would want to search early censuses to check that the Boxted Thomas didn't show up separately from your chap before I was convinced it was the same person. |
