Hi all, I can't find my GGGgrandfather William on any of the 1841 census for England or Scotland so naturally i believed he had died before it was taken as his wife Jean is down on her own in the 1841 census in Scotland. They were both born in Scotland. Their son also called William who lived in England at the time married in 1841 and his father, William, is not named as deceased on the certificate even though he isn't on any census. Hope this makes sense. If he was definately dead would it say so on the certificate? Hope some one can help me. Dawn |

No, it doesnt necessary say deceased. I have one where I know the father is deceased (I have his death cert) but the son has not said this on his marriage cert. I guess if the vicar or clerk said 'Fathers name and occupation' - a lot of people would just answer without adding he was already dead. |

dont know about Scottsh marriage certs but they may not show as deceased on English ones . depends how the question was worded when name of dad was asked for. Shirley |

Ok thanks for replying, maybe cause Scotlands so far away from Leicester where the marriage took place, he didn't know whether his father was dead or alive. Thanks for replys anyway. Dawn |
