Daniel If you're researching family history in Lancashire, you might find the following site useful: www(.) lan-opc(.)org(.)uk remove brackets. The marriage entries for St Mary, Leigh, do appear on this site, but unfortunately only up to 1799. There are also some burials. If you have other connections to this parish, you might want to take a look. If you like, I can personally check out your enquiry for you as I don't live too far away and have access to the records on microfilm. Regards Amanda

Sorry Amanda - didn't mean to duplicate but I must have posted at nearly the same time! Dear Daniel If you go on the Lancs OPC site there's a really nice old engraving of St Mary's church together with a history of it. Unfortunately the marriage and burials don't go far enough for your query but it's definitely worth a look. Website address is www(.)lan-opc(.)org(.)uk - remove brackets. Best of luck Maria

You're welcome, Danny. :-) I looked on the Genuki website - you can keep refining the area of interest, i.e. UK, then England, then Lancashire, then there's a link at the top of the Lancashire page which brings up towns and parishes in the county. You will eventually get to this page for Leigh: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/Leigh/ Click on the Church Records link at the left hand side of the little map and you get a list of all the churches. The IGI usually mentions if it's anything other than a C of E church, so looking at the two C of E churches in the list, St Mary's is the only one which existed in 1826, although not in its present form by the looks of things. Hi Daniel, I see the IGI entry you're referring to is an 'extracted' entry, so it will be transcribed from the parish register for the place mentioned. In this case, it means that the couple were married in the parish church of Leigh, which is St Mary the Virgin on St Mary's Way, Leigh. Chris

This is the info about Leigh from the 1841 census on Ancestry. Please choose a sub-registration district in Leigh: Atherton and Tyldesley Culcheth Lowton Census Records - Sub-Registration Districts Occasionally, counties will contain parishes with the same name or a large parish might include multiple instances of an Enumeration District number. Sub-registration districts, which are a related to civil registration districts, are then used to distinguish which parish or part of a parish is referenced Georgina.

Hello Daniel. Had a look and a Google but nothing for the date your after, maybe this might help? In 1835 the parish of Leigh contained the townships of Atherton, Tyldesley with Shakerley, Westleigh, Pennington, Bedford and Astley. from Genuki site.
