I have a birth certificate for Eliza Fetter b 24 Jul 1857 in Shoreditch, Middlesex. Her parents are listed as Phillip Fetter (a fur dyer) and Eliza Ann Fetter formerly Andrews. I would really like to find the names of her grandfathers from her parents marriage certificate, but I cannot find it. I cannot find her parents in the censuses either. She does not appear to have lived with her parents as a child. She is in the 1861 census as living in Shoreditch with her grandparents Phillip Cramer b 1808 Prussia (Preußen), Germany (a fur skin dyer) and Eliza Cramer b 1816 Theydon Bois, Essex. Their surname puzzles me as I Cramer is neither of her parent's surnames and yet their seems to be a lot of fur dying going on. She is in the 1871 census as still living in Shoreditch with her grandparents. This time though, they have a secong granddaughter living with them Janet E Fetter b.1866 Shoreditch. If this is Eliza's sister then it does imply that thier parents should be on the 1861 census somewhere. I think part of the problem is the number of possible spellings of Cramer / Kramer / Creamer and Fetter / Vetter and Theydon Bois which people spell in a lot of different ways. I have tried all combinations I can think of, but I cannot find that marraige in the bmd. Can anyone think of anything else to try? Thanks very much for takiong the time to read all of this :-)

I guess its possible that the grannie was Andrews but remarried. But that first name Phillip - does seem likely he is the paternal grandad doesnt it.

Ih youve got to buy that one aswell to see if its mum getting married a bit late! As I said earlier, the grandparents must be Elizas mum who has apparently set herself up as Mr Kramers wife. Goodness knows why they waited so long to marry, but possibly Mr Andrews was still around.

Hi, Thanks for your help on this marriage: Andrews Eliza Bermondsey 1d 79 VETTER Philipp Bermondsey 1d 79 It was the right one! Her father was George Andrews (a horn presser) and his father was Nicholas Vetter (a butcher in germany). Really interesting proffessions! Thank you again!
