I am tracing an adoptee and have a short list of 'suspects'(!) from the electrol roll online. The only way to cross-reference is to match the date of birth. I know the dob for the adoptee, but need to check the dob's of these others. Any ideas how I can do that? Many thanks

You have not given very much information to go on. If for where ever the electoral roll you can access previous years try rolling back and you may catch them as they become age 18/21 (depends on date). But at least tell the hunters on this message board the place, date and name. They appear to be magicians at look-ups! (That does not include me.) Anne you can check birth & marriages for free on Ancestry from 1837-2005 you only have to register. It is best not to put living peoples info on here, you dont say if the person you are looking for is married & do you know if their birth was registered in their birth mothers name or their adopted family's name? Hi Ann, Is this a living relative ?, I am not sure but I think Tracesmart has some ages on if you do a name search, not all though, if you ask Shirley-Ann to help on her thread, she may be able to find the ages on some of the possible matches, but I do not think that there is anywhere that you can get everyones ages on the current records. I do feel a bit uneasy about this Im afraid and how your target may feel if you do find the 'right one'.

Anne Please DON'T put the adoptee's name etc on here - it is against the T and C's of this site, for a start, and anyway, would be an extremely insensitive thing to do, as I am sure you already aware! When someone reaches voting age and appears on the register for the first time, their date of birth is given against their name.(That is, in the part of the year when they will reach their 18th or 21st birthday, if you understand me) This should help you decide whether or not you have the correct person - but it is very longwinded. Thanks for all the replies. I have narrowed it down from the electrol rolls. However the electrol roll results that I paid for did not give dob's for any of them. Now I don't know how to check the dob's to know if I have the right person.

Can anyone tellme where I can look up an electarol roll entry for 1968, which will also give dates of birth. I have paid for entries of recent electarol rolls and results were given without dob's.

Anne Why have you totally ignored the advice given on this thread, and started another thread giving details of the adoptee? She is going to get a terrible shock if she doesn't know she is adopted - how insensitive of you. Anyone in the world can read these boards - they do not have to be a member. OC

Some Elec rolls online do give dob's. The 'official' ones ie at the council only show ages from 18 or 21 if going back donkey years. You can be on the register if over 16 and approaching voting age. Anne PM me and I'll see if I can help. I do agree with Old Crone though you shouldn't put sensitive stuff such as an adoptees names on here! Sorry I did not know I had put any details other than one christian name. I am not being insensitive at all, as I have not put any other information as far as I can see and recall! But please look at it from this side of tha adoption. This my mothers half sister, who we only found out about 2 years ago. She had always been told that she had died at birth. My mother is 75 years old and is so desperate tomeet a sister,aas she was brought up as a n only child and would have loved a sibling. I am just trying to make her happy and find her half-sister. Why do adoptees get all the support. It is tough on members of the birth family also!

Anne Your mother can go to Social Services, who will help her immediately, because of her age. Adoption in 1948 was closed - final and forever. Your mother's mother made that decision with all that it entailed. The law has recently cautiously relaxed but seeks, quite properly in my view, to protect the Adoptee first and foremost. You will only ever have one chance at a first meeting with your mother's birth sister - please be very careful that you do not mess it up - you will probably not get a second chance if you do. But as I said, your mother's local Social Service department is the place to go. I wish her a very happy outcome from her search. OC

Where can I find the electoral roll on line? Am I missing something? I can't find any mention of the adoptee's name on this thread.
