thanks for everyones help and advice on this one. not sure who it was that found mary jane lackey mmn liddle. but i sent for the cert and the mother is margaret ann liddle and the father is gardiner lackey (my grt grandfather). we have always known her a grt aunt peggy. thanks again

Hi Yummy, my grt grandmothers eldest daughter was registered Margaret, but known all her life as Mary, even in her death registeration, and as already pointed out Peggy is also a shortening of Margaret. Good luck Nicky

that wouldnt be possible. vera was born in march 1908 and olive was born in june 1908. if they were twins they would be the same month or months next 2 each other (ie may june)

Hiya, I had a great aunt Blanche, and couldn't find her birth certificate. I even saw her when I was in the UK and double checked her birth date - didn't think to ask who had her certificate. (ALWAYS carry a notebook with basic questions in to prod you to get back on track with essential information - we talked about my granny and her boys!) Anyway the point of this story is she was MABEL Blanche. I'd check with the local registry office to see what they can find using the parents names. Your Peggy could be a nickname. If you spoke to my nanny you'd only hear her talking about 'Potter' when talking about me. It was my nickname 'Pansy Potter the strongman's daughter' from The BEANO. Regards Kristeen

i dont know if the books were new but they were annuals for boys in the mid 1950's. thanks for ideas. will re-start looking. SHE HAS GOT TO BE AROUND SOMEWHERE!!!!!

Presumably the books that she gave your father were new when purchased. Some of them will have a printing/publishing date. From that you will know that she was married in that year, so you can work back. From the other end - you have her parents marriage - even if she was the oldest and was born that year she is unlikely to have married before she was 18 so you have a start year. From there it's a slog, but if you can get her marriage cert that will give you an age.... Third possibility is that she was born before her parents married and is registered in her mother's name Peter

no, because i dont have a clue when she was born to try and work it out. any ideas on when i start searching from for a marriage?

james gardiner was her brother. but yes i would guess 'uncle jim' was a james. james gardiner listed above married an eva morley. i really am puzzled by her.

hi, i am stil on a hunt for my grt aunt peggy. this lady doesnt want to be found. i now have BMD for all of her siblings but cant even find her birth. i know she existed as i have books that were my fathers from 'aunt peggy and uncle jim'. her parents were gardiner lackey 1881 and margaret ann liddle 1877. they married in jan 1904 in houghton-le-spring, durham. the other kids were born in 1904, 1906, 1908 and 1910. i dont know if she was eldst/youngest etc. has anyone got any ideas? amy
