Simpsons Hotel for homeless men?

I remember Simpsons Hotel, Wallsend and used to pass by it every day on my way to work (1945 to 1951) It was located at the top of the hill which led down to Swan Hunters shipyard. It wasn't a particularly imposing building, a bit rough actually and it seemed only for the use of the working man; more of a lodging house, although I suppose some might have been permanent residents.

Hi All, In my ongoing search to find information on my Maternal Grandfather, we used traceline. They sent us information of a death cert. The death cert arrived today. It has finally given us something to finally work with. While he died in Preston Hospital, North Shields in 1967, it says under occupation: 'of Simpsons Hotel Wallsend, Club Warden Retired' I've googled Simpsons Hotel to find out if it was there and found that it was possibly a hostel for homeless & retired men (possibly to do with shipyard workers). It doesn't sound like it was a pleasant place and it has been pulled down now. My question is this, does anyone else on here know anything about Simpsons Hotel, Wallsend? Has anyone found any connections with the place themselves? I'm interesting to hear anything about it. Thanks, Liz.
