What is his name (and not ALL the records are on there). Why dont you go to the main page and try entering a few names in the search box there and see if anything comes up for any people on your tree? Bit of fun. |

War is a terrible thing. This may explain: from TNA: There is a specific search form for the merchant seamen's medals category. The index to the images contains data transcribed from the cards. The fields you can search on are last name, first name (or initial) and discharge book number. In many cases an individual's date of birth was in the record, and so is available to search in the index. Please remember that BT 395 contains a record of medals claimed and issued, rather than entitlement, so if an individual is not listed in the index, it may be because they have not claimed their medal entitlement. For more information see the Medal entitlement section below. |

Hi, I just went and looked myself to refresh my mind. Nope, they are there, go to the documents on line and then over to the right hand side top and it says erm, WW2 Seamens medals (not navy - seamen). Click on that and then you get to another page: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/seamens-medals.asp |

Well those things arent too difficult, go to the National archives documents on line page: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/ To look for your WW2 medals - look on the right hand side and its says something like search WW2 navy records and just click on that, enter your chaps name and bobs your uncle. For other online downloads look at the left hand margin and it gives you a list of what is available, Wills etc. Go on, have a go looking for the medal card now and get back to us if you have probs. The day before yesterday I did my regular, 'enter a few names from my tree' check on the main National Archives page search box and found a court case involving my OH's grandad - so worth everyone having a search with their names: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ Just go to this addy and then put a name of one of yours into the search box on the top righthand side and see if anything exciting appears for your people. |
