The Cumming family (those of interest to me anyway) moved to New Zealand sometime between 1928 and 1941. Can anyone tell me how to learn more details please? Clive

New Zealand Library is good. Have a look here: http://www.natlib.govt.nz/collections/areas-of-focus/family-history Good luck Clive.

I seem to be a total dim-wit with NZ records. Surely if there are passenger lists for 1856 there must be the same for 1936? Clive

Not all passenger lists are online - that applies to all countries. If you're looking for passenger lists from the UK, ancestorsonboard/findmypast will eventually have lists from 1890 to 1960 online, but they only go up to 1919 so far. There are a few NZ passenger lists in the Passenger Lists thread on the Records Office board that you could try. NZ BMD information isn't online as far as I know, but cemetery records can be a good source of information: http://nzgenealogy.rootschat.net/cemetery.html Other NZ genealogy sites: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb*com/~ourstuff/ http://www.bdm.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/wpg_URL/Services-Births-Deaths-and-Marriages-Finding-Family-History-Records?OpenDocument http://ozlists*com/genies/index.htm http://archway.archives.govt.nz/ (replace asterisk with dot)

Thanks - I was told a short time ago that the most recent NZ census is the first which will be kept - hang about for 100 years and you will be able to look up where you were living! Your very impressive list makes me understand a little why I was making such slow progress. Clive

I had a message a few minutes ago from a NZ contact - 'I know someone called Cumming and will see them next week'. Swict concentration to other family members! Clive
