Hi Liz, Actually it has confirmed quite abit.... Most of all her husband's correct name and occupation. That the couple I have found in 1881 and 1891 are correct. The problem I have now is to find their correct marriage as I think that she had been married previously. I have her in 1851 then she vanishes till 1881 and she does seemed to have moved around abit lol !! Linda x

I know it's a bit late as you have the certificate, but here's what Barbara Dixon has to say about the occupation column on death certificates of married or widowed women: ''For a wife or widow - her occupation was considered to be being married to her husband! So there will not be any reference to her paid employment (and a vast number of women did work) but it will say wife (or widow) of .............(husbands name) ...........(his occupation). So you cannot tell from this whether a woman had been working - even when they held down professional jobs as they might have done towards the end of the 19th century and iup to the present. Married women were not shown as having an occupation until 1969.'' http://home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/indexbd.htm Chris

It is so frustrating Rache. In my case I have a birth in 1830....then appears to be married in 1881 but I cannot find a marriage so I think she may have been previously married. So I thought I would start with her death...oh well fingers crossed. Linda

I think it is quite likely that her late husband's name will be shown. I have certificates for the deaths of 7 widows ranging from 1854 to 1999, which all name the late husbands. Gwyn

I have had several death certs that state widow of late and then the husbands name has been given - one in 1858 and one is 1875 then one in 1885. Regards Irene

It's almost certain that it wouldn't. That said, I ordered a death cert for someone. It led me to the cemetry where I found the woman was buried with two others, one of whom was her husband (the other was his first wife lol). So while the cert itself might not give you an answer it might lead you to something that could. EG. it may give you their address, which you could use for an electoral roll look up.

Hi Linda. It will show the persons name & address who registered the death. It may not be a family member. Malcolm.
