Babz, I was thinking there had been some kind of riot or something... and what kind of person looked a man and his young family up together. LOL. I told my dad the story this morning exactly as I went through it and before I told him he was a policeman he was looking all worried thinking he come from a bunch of crooks. Marie, it is refreshing indeed. At least someone in my direct ancestors did something with their lives. One of the girls (a sister of my G.Grandfather), was a school teacher at 18 on the census. Unfortunately, with that being on 1901 I can't see if she continued with it.

I know what you mean Liz, isn't it great when they have some sort of profession or career in them days ! The only one of my lot I ever found that was more than a labourer was John Beckford and he was a School Master. It's amazing how such little things please with this hobby ! Marie x

I must be getting tired or just my excitement of finding so much on a guy who's been elluding me for months. I found my guy's dad on 1871 census, age 10, with a mass of siblings. After having struggled for street address before I clicked to read the image and quite clearly in column it said 'Police Station'. I'm thinking...bloody hell...surely the whole family didn't get kicked. Lots of ditto's in that column under it too. I finally scroll across and find that the guy was a Police Sergeant. Talk about D'oh! LOL. Just thought I'd share, first time one of my guys has been more than just a labourer etc. Still think that police station must have been mighty crowded, he and his wife had 7 kids, and then there were at least a couple of other families residing there. I'm assuming they were probably police houses rather than the station itself but you never know in them days lol.
