Anyone with Knowledge of Halifax?

I am trying to trace possible grave of my Great Grandfather. His death certificate gives his address as 'Hillside' Trimmingham Halifax. As he died at Colwyn Bay (presumably convalescing) I suppose the registrar spelled Trimmingham with two m's in error. Can anyone give me any information about the area and in particular, which churches or graveyards would be the best places to look for him? Many thanks Trina

Funnily enough I used to live in Trimmingham, but it was many years ago. If you look at www.multimap*com, Trimmingham is roughly the area between Trimmingham Road/Churn Lane and Burnley Road. It's a very pleasant little area on the outskirts of Halifax (or at least it was 25 years ago, I don't know what it's like now). Can't think offhand which would be the nearest church, but here's a link to the Calderdale Cemeteries department, which may be able to help: http://www.calderdale.gov.uk/community/life-events/death/cemeteries.html

Many thanks Mary. They previously lived a Selby Bridge where he was manager of the canal, so they didn't move far!

I think you mean Sowerby Bridge, which is indeed very close to Trimmingham.

Think the nearest church is St. John's, Warley, Halifax.

Thankyou everyone. I'll try that. Sorry - only just checked back as I didn't think there would be any more messages. Glad I did!
