If you put Arthurs name into free bmd ...then put in her name you get all the arthurs that married Alice ... If you have ancestry.com you can do the same it may give you a lead

Yes thanks Sandra My grandparents got married in the Catholic church in Shrewsbury but i think that was because my gran came from a Catholic family. so not sure Arthur would have got married there but its definitely worth me considering it .THANKYOU Chris

Sorry i should have explained my dad passed away before i started researching my tree My Grandad was the youngest of 6 and didn't get married till he was 38 (died 1952) and my one remaining aunty (AGE78) only knew her dad had one sister!!! couldn't have been a very close family !!!How do i cross reference Arthur with Alice? (sorry i'm a bit new to this )best wishes Christine

Did your grandparents marry in a church if so he may of married there as well, you could look at the parish records held in that local records office for a marriage

Silly question ...but isnt there anyone who could know as hes only your grand-parents generation .......an auntie or child of .... have you tried cross matching Arthur with an Alice

Hi Everyone, My grandad's brother was an Arthur Powell born in Dawley Shropshire in 1884. O n the 1901 census he is with his parents . I am trying to find a marriage for him but because the name is so common i have many possibilities.Will i just have to wait for the 1911 census to get a clue as to his wifes name or is there somewhere else to look. His wife MAYBE an Alice (i have a photo of him with a lady with that name) ANY SUGGESTIONS ?best wishes Chris
