a check with the ever popular Dr Barnado's could be a starting point, although not the only childrens home by any means, but they seemed to have handled more than most,,their database is huge,,,,,,,,,,,,,their site will give you more information,

Kay, no I hadn't. Friend is going to see his dad to see what more he remembers but its certainly a possibility. Thought a marriage cert might also give clue to whereabouts at that time. What I do know is that from the Hayle Cornwall area they ended up in Plymouth area. Thanks for that, Ronnie

Veronica legal adoptions as we know them today didn't start till the mid 1920's, I think before this time children were usually brought up by relatives or friends. I am sure someone else will have some advice. Georgina.

Hi, I have been checking out past threads re adoptions but I seem to be looking from another direction! I am searching on behalf of a friend. We know that his g.g grandfather and 2 brothers were (reputedly) adopted. His father died in WW1 and his mother about 9 years later. We have plenty of info on the birth family but my friend would like to know who brought them up. Is there anyway of finding this? Any advice greatfully received Ronnie ps going off line.. husband just 'done' his back in!! Back in morning. thanks again.
