I think my family were living in Praed St, Paddington at the time of the 1851 census. Does anyone know how I can do a look-up based on an address? Thanks |

Steve, 1841,1861,1871 and 1891 can be checked by address on Findmypast. 1901 on National Archives. Both of these sites are pay to view the results. Would be easier to post details of the names you are looking for and why you think they are at that address in 1851. Maureen |

In Ancestry - if you have a subscription. Go to the home page: Scroll down. At the bottom click on 1851 census England Scroll down. Click on the County (middlesex) Click on Paddington. Click on St Mary or St John - whichever is correct for you You then get a list of districts. If you view the district decsription, you can see which streets are covered |

I'm looking for John Moxsom and his son Edward, b. 1813 in Marylebone. Edward married Caroline Manning in 1837 at St James, Paddington, when both were living in Praed St, Paddington. Edward and Caroline are living in Cornwall Place Marylebone by the 1851 census (name mis-transcribed as Monsour in Ancestry). I can't find John in 1851, or any of them in 1841. I've been told that 1841 records for the district including Praed St were destroyed. Drawn a blank... so thought I'd try to find Praed St in the 1851 and see if anyone's there. Any good ideas greatfully received! Thanks, Steve. |

The guidance posted by Linda is your best bet. I assume you've checked for a death for John? Or do you have evidence that he was alive in 1851? Reg |

All I really have is John's name on Edward and Caroline's marriage certificate. Moxsom is such an unusual spelling it's often mis-transcribed in indexes, and may have been spelt differently by the family at an earlier date, though Edward and his decendents use that spelling consistently. Hence fairly random activity like checking Praed Street in 1851, 1841 seemingly having gone the way of all flesh (and paper)... |
