Elizabeth Census matching on GR isn't done for YOUR benefit, ha ha, it is done to encourage you to buy credits for this site. I expect it catches quite a few Newbies in its net. OC |

It is a bit harsh to say GR are stupid. Is is no different to you typing the name and date into Ancesty's Census search, it is just that they have done it for you. The FTM web search works in a similar way. It would be nice if the death date could be taken into account, in the same way the we would like the place of birth to be checked for Hot Matches, but this isn't the case just yet. |

I know what you mean, it is highly frustrating having to wait for an age anyway for your info you have just put on to update, then to do its stupid search of matches on the census etc and on other trees when your person went and died meaning they wont be on those censuses. I get annoyed with all these updates and things that are supposed to make things better when they just dont! |

I can see Elizabeth's point. If she has a death recorded for her relly there is no point in flashing up someone later who is still alive. There should be some easy way for Genes to fix that. Regards Margaret |

Hi Sylvia - I realise that there are going to be lots of perople with the same name. But don't people find it so annoying when you have a flashing box in their tree for 20 other people of the same name. You usually find out fairly quickly if there are any matches elsewhere. It's not particularly helpful having this. Hot matches are bad enough - having to trawl through and delete all the rubbish ones (most of them). |

BUT there could well be someone else with the same name on those censuses. GR does NOT sort the information just for you. Otherwise we wouldn't get all those Hot Matches for Joe Blow born in all the counties in the UK, instead of in Lancashire only! |

I have just entered another person on my tree. She was born in 1846 and died in 1862. I have entered both dates. When I look at her name it is flashing census matches for her for 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901. Can't they be more discrimatory? She died in 1862 - she's not likely to be on subsequent censuses!! |
