OK, I think I've worked out what you mean........... You want to know if the person found on 1881 census (it would have helped if you'd said that) is the one born/baptised in 1828........am I right? Looking at censuses, the info is consistently that he was born 1831/2, although 1841 does have an 11 year old whose father is also William. I think the marriage cert really is your best hope.............. Reg |

Not quite sure what you mean by 'proving' his birth. As it was pre-GRO, you can really only hope to find 'proof' of the day he was baptised. Other than that, census info will tell you how old he thought he was in any given year....and his marriage cert will tell you the name and occupation of his father. (If he knew it) Reg |
