1851 England Census about Thomas Pritchard Name: Thomas Pritchard Age: 47 Estimated birth year: abt 1804 Relation: Head Gender: Male Where born: Cheadle, Staffordshire, England Civil parish: Checkley Ecclesiastical parish: Upper Tean County/Island: Staffordshire Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Disability: View image Registration district: Cheadle Sub-registration district: Alton ED, institution, or vessel: 2b Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 88 Household Members: Name Age Elizabeth Pritchard 4 Sarah A Pritchard 19 Thomas Pritchard 47 I'm finding it difficult to read the first two words of Thomas' occupation: ? and overlooker at the the Tape Works of T and N Philips & Co (There was a tape works where most of the youngsters seem to have been empolyed) By the 1861 census Thomas has risen to 'Manager of Tape Factory'. Could it be '? keeper' He married Hannah Tufnell (his 2nd marriage) in 1845. Elizabeth was born in 1846 and Hannah died in 1847.

Reggie - many thanks! Why on earth couldn't I spot that! My husband looked too and couldn't decipher it and he is an accountant! And after me moaning about the quality of the transcriptions too! I take it all back....
