I should have said - archives services will sometimes do the research for you if you're not local. They will charge for this, usually by the hour, but if it costs less than your journey would cost, it's probably worth it. :-) Chris

Hi Clare, Old newspapers have quite often been put on microfilm or microfiche and are available to search at local archives or libraries. They aren't usually indexed, but if you know the date you should be able to find the nearest issue on the film or fiche. Kent Archives service is probably a good place to start - they say they have collections of newspapers. Here's their web page: http://www.kent.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/archives-and-local-history/ Chris

Could any body please point me in the right direction. I have discovered the brother of my g grandmother was 'accidentally' shot while in barracks in kent in 1914. I have a copy of the inquest story, but was wondering whether I could trace a copy of the story in the newspaper. The paper was the Sheerness Times, but when I google this, I get the up to date things, or when I put in archives, nothing relevant... Any tips?? Many thanks, Clare x
