That makes sense and reminded me that you should let your mobile battery run right down and not keep it topped up because the battery runs out of memory of how much capacity it has on full charge

Just reading the response to this reminded me of a tip that an 'old school' IT engineer told me some years ago. He suggested that all PC's should be closed down and physically switched off at least once a month. Leave it switched off for a couple of minutes and then re-start the machine. If you don't do this, over time, the amount of available memory in your system gradually reduces due to a phenomena known as memory leakage. Basically when memory is no longer needed, it is not released immediately but held in reserve, in case the process using it wants it back. Over a long period this can start to affect performance.

It all depends on how long is a piece of string! Very hard to answer this without seeing the machine but it is probably one of two things - too many programmes open at once or your computer has a corrupted memory and needs a restart. Both will probably be cured by a restart (gives you time to make a cup of tea doesn't it?), Clive
