Just a thought, as the census was transcribed wrongly, have you searched the birth records for Pilman? Mis-transcriptions can occur in the BMDs as well as census Pam

I agree there is a big gap between the chidren in 1901 the youngest who is 6 and 1912. You really need your father's marriage certificate, have you got it yet? It is possible he was adopted or he could even be the child of the youngest daughter Gertrude who would have been 20 in 1912.

I cannot find the birth of my dad, Edwin Claude Pitman 1912, Blandford Forum, Dorset. I have found his parents and siblings(Henry John Pitman, Emily Pitman (Nee Harvey in the 1901 census) but nothing for him in the birth registers, only in the marriage and death registers. Where am I going wrong, could it be that he was adopted, if so how do I find out ? Many Thanks, Christine
