Permanent Infantry in Canterbury 1861

Can anyone help with info about this regiment and which campaigns they were involved in if any? My relative was stationed in the Canterbury barracks in 1861 and then disappears until 1880 when he pitches up in the USA. Would love to know what he was up to in the interim.

I stumbled across an excellent website for regiments called www(.)regiments(.)org it lists all the different regiments both UK commonwealth, african etc. The Buffs were stationed at Canterbury so I wonder if that is the lot that you are after. KR Harriet
