Can anyone help me. All my information on my great grandmother has her parents as John Wells and Elizabeth Glinnan (Glennon) and Eliza born on 22nd August 1861 at JB Creek, near Bigga, but on my grandfathers birth Certificate it says she was born at Marengo. Which in those days wasn't that far really. Her marriage certificate doesn't have parents names or occupation on there. Another family tree has her born on the 1st July 1861 and her parents as Nathaniel Wells and Ann West. I have done searches of Australian BDM's and I cannot find an Eliza born to Nathaniel and Ann West, but I do find a death certificate for Eliza Lloyd, (her married name) with parents names of Nathaniel and Ann. I have found an Eliza Wells born to John and Elizabeth and I have the birth certificate for said one. Is it possible two girls born in the same district, one in July, the other August would be given the exact same name? And how do I now find out which is the right one? If anyone could help it would be very much appreciated...I am totally confused.. Many thanks for your time Leslie Bush (nee Lloyd) |

Hi Leslie I guess its possible - were the girls related in any way ? (that makes it more likely in my estimation) My husbands family has two men, who were first cousins, both called Lewis George Cole, born about 3 years apart and one in NSW and the other in Victoria. Caused the Army a bit of confusion during WW1. What about getting the death certificates of Nathaniel and/or Ann and John and/or Elizabeth. NSW Death Certs list all children of the deceased (proviso: if known by the informant). If each has an Eliza registered, you will know there are two Elizas. If both Eliza's births were reg. in NSW, I guess the parents died here ?? The NSW registration shows the district as Carcoar (near Bathurst) for Eliza to John and Elizabeth. For the children of Nathaniel and Ann (not including Eliza) but an Elizabeth born 1855, the district is Young. John Wells died 1867 Carcoar district, Nathaniel shows as 1876 in Young. Transcriptions of death certificates in NSW are $15 from any one of the three listed on the BDMs website - about half the price of an official certicate and just as useful, except for a legal doc. I have two men with identical names, registered on the same day in the same district, on the same page, both with fathers called James Holden. I thought it was a mistake, a doubling up, especially when the kindly local registrar told me both mothers were called Mary Slater! I got them anyway and discovered that the birth dates were slightly different (five days apart) and so were the addresses. Two cousins called James Holden had married an Aunt and her neice (of similar ages) both called Mary Slater. OC |

Hi All Thanks for the advice. Eliza doesn't have her parents listed on her marriage certificate at all, thats whats making it hard...lol.. and I don't know which death certificate to get as I dont' know when either set of parents died. I wonder if I got the last child born to Nathaniel and Ann birth certificate if that would help, because according to the BDM website, John and Elizabeths last child was Eliza...lol.. Leslie |
