The last column on the 1841 was for born Scotland Ireland or Foreign parts. I havent got me glasses on, but I think you will find thats what it says. Still havent got glasses on, but double checked on ancestry: **The 'Where Born' column only asked two questions - 1) whether born in same county, and 2) whether born in Scotland, Ireland, or Foreign Parts. Possible answers and abbreviations to question #1 include: Yes (Y), No, (N), or Not Known (NK). For question #2, the following abbreviations were used: Scotland (S), Ireland (I), and Foreign Parts (F).

I think the 'I' on the 1841 in the last column might stand for 'Imbecile' rather then Ireland?

Oops sorry Heather, my bad! You are correct. Must be the way my brain works - see an 'I' and immediately think imbecile!

Have a look at that Stokes one above - that seems very possible.

I did see the 'I' for Ireland and realised that he was more likely to be a grand child. However, I had looked at John but thought according to my notes he was born in Combe Florey, not Sampford Courtney, but did they always tell the truth about where theywere born?

Perhaps this could be Sarah and John in 1851? The image is quite faint so it could be Stoate John Stoakes Age: 26 Estimated birth year: abt 1825 Relation: Son Mother's name: Sarah Gender: Male Where born: Coombe Florey, Somerset, England Civil parish: Combe Florey County/Island: Somerset Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Disability: View image Registration district: Taunton Sub-registration district: Taunton St James ED, institution, or vessel: 5 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 27 Household Members: Name Age George Combeeers 16 John Stoakes 26 Sarah Stoakes 73

On the 1841 image it has I in the last column, meaning born Ireland for the youngest boy (grandchild?)

Hi, I have in my tree in the 1841 Thomas Stoate age 55, Sarah Stoate age 60 John Stoate age 15 and Charles stoate age 3. They appear as such in 1841 census for Combe Florey, Somerset, but hacve all completel disappeared by 1851 census. Is it likely that they have all died. Can't find them in the deaths either, Linda
