Julie, sorry if I 'missed you out'. Your message came through as I was sending mine - didn't pick it up 'til later. M. Steer |

Ladies, your so quick! how do you do it? I don't think Betsey Phillis is correct - after double checking, the marriage took place well after the birth of first child. Elizabeth Bennett is looking more and more promising. Thankyou so much. M. Steer |

Thanks Janice and Fuzzy. I have a copy of the Parish Registers for Ditcheat (maybe partial) but none of my Webb family appear on it. James' children were Albert (my GG Grandfather), James, John and Willliam. The possible marriage I found was to Betsey Phillis (1824) but I shall pursue Elizabeth Bennett (sorry! can't resist this - didn't she marry Mr. Darcy?) Many thanks for your help. M. Steer |

Hi Margaret, Have you tried looking for the baptisms of all of his children? If you could find these and the name of the mother matched that of the marriage you found.... Are the children James, william, John and albert? If so will look to see if I can see them on the IGI |

You would need to look at the parish records for the christenings of the children. That would name both parents. Janice |

My GGG Grandfather James Webb was born c1796 in Somerset (probably in or around Ditcheat). On all the Census returns he is shown as a Widower and all his children (that I'm aware of) were born pre 1837, so I've no way of knowing who his wife was. I've found (on IGI) a marriage for a James Webb (in Shepton Mallet) that 'fits' - I don't want to 'assume' but I can't corroborate either. Anyone have any suggestions please? M. Steer |
